Elite has made two main residential lines over the years: the SL series (swing gate operators like the SL-1000, SL-2000, and SL-3000) and the CSW series for heavier gates. - Humming sound with no movement. The capacitor has failed, so the motor cannot develop enough starting torque. Replacing just the capacitor sometimes buys six more months, but if the motor has been humming through that failed cap for weeks, the windings are likely damaged.
- Gate runs fine in one direction, struggles in the other. On Elite SL models, this points to worn brushes or a failing reverse contactor. If brushes are worn past their service limit, the motor is done and replacement beats rebuilding.
- Circuit breaker trips intermittently. In Wylie’s July and August heat, motors on unshaded gates run near their temperature limit every afternoon. A healthy Elite motor handles it. One with degraded winding insulation trips the breaker instead.
