Here’s what matters for a correct match. First, look for the model tag on the operator housing itself, not the control board. The board tells you the control revision; the operator housing tells you the mechanical series. Second, FAAC motors are identified by voltage: 115V for most North American residential installs, but older import units and some estate gates run 220V. Wiring a 115V motor into a 220V system is a fast way to burn it out in a week. Third, you’ll face the OEM-vs-aftermarket decision. FAAC OEM motors carry a premium price, but we stock quality aftermarket equivalents for the 400-series that match the original torque specs and mounting pattern at roughly 30-40% less. We’ll tell you straight: for the 412 and 415, the aftermarket motor is a solid choice. For the 740 hydraulic series, stay OEM. Signs Your FAAC Gate Motor Is Failing

• Gate moves noticeably slower than it did six months ago. The motor’s windings or the capacitor is degrading. On 400-series units, this usually means the run capacitor is on its way out, which is a $40 part that can buy you another year or two. On hydraulic units, slow movement points to low fluid or a tired pump.
• Motor hums but the gate doesn’t move. The capacitor has failed completely or the motor is seized. If it’s the capacitor, you’re in luck. If it’s seized, it’s a full motor replacement, not a repair.
• You hear a grinding or whining sound from the operator housing. Internal bearings or gears are worn. Once the bearings go, the motor shaft starts to wobble and the whole assembly eats itself. Running it longer only makes the replacement more expensive.
